Best gathered imo around the edges in Un'goro, Silithus, Felwood and Winterspring. Before BC my best spot for it was Un'goro Crater. It grows in high, rocky areas. If you took the time to circle the outer edge of the crater you could have found a lot that way. Another good spot is in Felwood; around the green oozy lake bridge, there is a rocky part north of it. It grows all around Hellfire Peninsula and if you're lucky enough to have an epic flying mount, you can grab a lot of these in very little time.
Spawn points are the usual high mountains and rocky zones so having a flying mount of any kind is a major advantage. None anywhere. I didn't get any from the Bloodpetal's that I killed for the quest down there, but there are several places to gather them along the mountains in the crater.
